Ruth LeMay
Director, 3 Strings
Ruth LeMay is a pedagogist, entrepreneur, neurological music therapist allied professional, and veteran music educator with over thirty years experience in Minneapolis Public Schools. As an urban PK-12 music educator Ruth has experience in guitar, modern band, songwriting, adapted music, general music, choir, and band. She is a disability advocate focused on inclusion and equal access. Music room doors need to be wide open! Ruth holds a Bachelor of Music in instrumental and vocal music from the University of South Dakota, a MM in Music Education and Choral Conducting from University of MN, Twin Cities Campus and is adjunct faculty at UW River Falls teaching Adapted Music. She is the president and founder of 3 Strings, Inc (3strings.org) a 501(c)3 and 3 Strings, LLC, a trail blazing methodology that transliterates western music notation into shapes, symbols and language from our formative years. 3 Strings works alone and in conjunction with traditional notation. Ruth serves as the Upper Midwest Regional Representative for the national council of guitar education for NAfME. Ruth frequently performs with her 3 Strings band, Emergence, at state conferences, community events, gigs for hire and is a frequent guest speaker across the nation. Ruth was published in Soundboard magazine Fall 2022 “Creating Music for a Neurodiverse Population.” Ruth lives with her wife, Karen, of 27 years, their two college age children and two dogs. Her free time is spent relaxing with friends, preparing various ethnic cuisines planning their next adventure.
